We were honoured to be invited to the Houses of Parliament for the Life Sciences & Innovation Showcase yesterday. It was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when relentless innovators unite to tackle great challenges. We left inspired, energised and proud of our part in this ecosystem.   WE WON!!! Newrotex are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the MedTech Innovator Impact Award at MedTech Strategist Innovation Summit this week.  We talk all the time about the impact of living with nerve injuries. The average patient suffering from peripheral nerve injury is just 32 years old. For patients with large-gap peripheral nerve injuries, today’s options often fall short — leaving many facing lifelong disability, loss of function, and a limited quality of life.  Our goal with SilkAxons is to change that.

First In Human Trial Update

We’re pleased to share an early update from our first-in-human clinical trial of SilkAxons. The first cohort of patients has now reached the 6-month primary outcome milestone. To date, we have observed no adverse events, and all treated patients have already demonstrated meaningful functional recovery! Importantly, these cases all involved very large peripheral nerve gaps (8–10 cm) — injuries that remain highly challenging to treat with existing standards of care. Seeing effective recovery across this initial group is an encouraging early signal. While these results are preliminary and the study remains ongoing, crossing this milestone safely and successfully represents an important step forward for our program. We remain focused on disciplined clinical execution, rigorous follow-up, and transparent reporting as additional patients reach key endpoints We want to thank the patients, the team at the Panama Clinic and our CRO partners who have made this progress possible.  We look forward to sharing further updates as the trial advances.

Newrotex First In Human Study

  WORLD-FIRST ACHIEVED: Today has been an emotional day for the Newrotex Team as our first product SilkAxons was successfully implanted into a patient to repair their large nerve gap (10cm)! For patients with large-gap peripheral nerve injuries, today’s options often fall short — leaving many facing lifelong disability, loss of function, and a limited quality of life. Our goal with SilkAxons is to change that. This trial represents an important step toward offering a new treatment designed to restore function and independence for people who currently have few effective options. While it’s early days, this first enrollment is a milestone that brings us closer to making a real difference for patients and their families. Alex, our CEO says “As a previous Zoologist turned Trauma & Orthopaedic surgeon, I was first struck by the challenges of treating patients with nerve injuries during my early surgical training. Years later through research and collaborations we ultimately founded Newrotex with a vision to create something better for those patients. And it’s been a rollercoaster of the highs and lows of innovation – but always with the belief that we could make a difference. Today that belief became real”.  We want to congratulate Dr Ricard Bermudez and his fantastic team at the Panama Clinic for achieving this Word First implantation bridging a gap larger than anything on the market can currently achieve.  We are deeply grateful to the clinicians, trial teams, and most of all the patients who make this progress possible. As we continue this journey, we’re also mindful that addressing this profound unmet need represents not only an opportunity to change lives but also to build the foundation for a new standard of care in nerve repair — one with significant clinical and market impact.

Patient Story – Meet Helen

  At Newrotex, patients are at the heart of everything we do. Every day, countless individuals suffer life-changing nerve injuries — whether from trauma or as a complication of surgeries, such as those for breast or prostate cancer. Yet, the current gold-standard treatment still involves sacrificing healthy donor nerves from elsewhere in the body — a painful and invasive procedure with significant complications. This needs to change. Helen, pictured here, knows this reality all too well. She survived a devastating car accident that left her with multiple fractures and internal injuries. Despite the severity of her trauma — affecting her head, spine, ribs, and more — Helen says that the nerve injury to her arm was always her “biggest challenge”. As part of her extensive expert treatment at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Helen underwent a donor nerve graft procedure, where a nerve was taken from her leg in an effort to restore function in her arm. Since then Helen has been a powerful advocate for change, generously supporting Newrotex and our mission to transform how nerve injuries are treated.
